Frequently Asked Questions

How often will we meet?

The standard meeting time for psychotherapy is 45 minutes, once a week.

Occasionally, we will meet twice a week, based on the severity of the symptoms.

Do you take insurance?

Therapy Today is an out-of-network provider on most insurance plans for clients in New York and Massachusetts.

If you would like to use your out-of-network benefits, please contact your insurance company prior to our first meeting and ask what the out-of-network reimbursement would be for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT code: 90834). The specific amount of this reimbursement depends on your plan. Here are a few questions you may want to ask a representative by calling the number on your insurance card:

1. Does your plan include “out-of-network” coverage for mental health?

2. What is your annual deductible for mental health benefits?

3. What is your co-insurance? (What percentage does the plan cover?)

4. Is there a limit on the number of sessions your plan will cover per year?

We can submit claims to your insurance on your behalf so that you don’t have to deal with any paperwork. Our standard rate for individual therapy is $300 per session and $350 for couples counseling.

Do you prescribe medication?

We do not prescribe medications.  However, we will discuss your interest in medication and if we determine that you would benefit from biological treatments, we will then refer you to a qualified psychiatrist who will work with us concurrently. Medication should not be seen as a replacement for the work we do together, but rather as a valuable supplement to talk therapy.

What benefits can I expect from therapy?

Over the course of therapy, you may find that your mood improves, your relationships and coping skills get better, and that you get more satisfaction out of your work, relationships, and daily activities.

How do I know if we will be a good fit?

We will have a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation before booking your initial session. You can email info@therapytodaynyc.com to schedule an appointment.
